Warner Listening Lab: Consumer Research for the Music Industry

HMW: Get greater insight on the customer response to a song before money is spent bringing it to radio?

Solution:  Unlike the film industry, the music industry does not perform robust user research on music before it is released. I created and implemented the "Warner Listening Lab," a consumer research project intended to get both survey data and qualitative data that can predict the success of a song when it is released using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The Warner Listening lab contains both a double-blind, control-group-valid experiment and also a survey portion. 

 

I found statistically relevant insights after having tested several songs on an N of 100. I presented these findings to the CEO and exec team at Warner Brothers Records
